Through this work I explore what Americans consume consciously, and have also mulled over what we consume unwittingly and spend much of our lives working to jettison -- namely physical and psychological baggage. Claiming that baggage with an eye toward leaving at least some of it permanently "checked" motivated recent works such as a series of temporary tattoos called Baggage Claim and these cast birdseed suitcase fragments called All This Baggage is for the Birds.
In multiple outdoor iterations of this piece birds, squirrels, and insects gradually carried these objects off, allowing these manifestations of personal and cultural baggage to travel far and wide, turning what is no longer serving me into nutritive sustenance for other creatures.
